Although, our Infantry unit is located in the Columbus, Ohio area, we have members from as far away as Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia and Western Virginia. January/February meetings
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Captain wishes me to advise you on some changes made regarding the meetings in January and February. During the January meeting, he would like to discuss the various events, and assuming that the weather cooperates,we will drill. Also, if anyone has anything to sell, or if you have any new recruits, please bring both to the meeting. ,
Between January and February, those of you who are in other units will probably find out what you are doing with those units, and all of us will have a chance to think about the events we wish to attend. During the February meeting, we can decide which events we wish to attend, and vote on officers and non-comms.
Happy Thanksgiving, and as ever,
Your obedient servant,
Pvt. Sam

Mark your Calender
Ladies and Gentlemen,
According to 5th Kentucky tradition, we will be having our post-holiday dinner in January. The chosen date will be Saturday, January 22 at 7:30. Again this year we will be in the back room at the Hoggys at Morse Road and route 62(Johnstown Road). http://www.hoggys.com/locations.cfm?id=3 Please-mail to let me know, 5thkentucky@gmail.com, if you plan on attending. We will need to let Hoggys know how many to expect.
Officers and Non-Comms, the I.G. is having their planning meeting at Connor Prairie at 12:00 on the 22nd. If you are interested in attending, let me know, we might be able to car pool. We'll have to scurry back to make dinner -but fear not. Have any of us missed many meals?
On Sunday the 23rd we will have our planning meeting. If you have events that you would like the group to consider, please double check the date. Post your suggestions here on the blog for all to see. This gives us time to check them out before having to vote at the meeting. Drill is a possibility, depending on the weather.
The Statehouse Ball is January 29th.
As ever, your humble servant,
Big Sam

After action report - Guyandotte, Western Virginia
November 5-7 2010
www.guyandottecivilwardays.com/
A small squad traveled to Guyandotte to participate in the reenactment. There were two street battles, one each on Saturday, and one on Sunday. Most of our squad survived the Saturday battle, but only one survived the carnage Sunday. Everyone that we met there treated us as if we were part of their family.
Good food was provided in ample quantities. Weather was cool, but dry, and during the days warmed up to the perfect temperature for killing Yankees. Three members of the 1st Tennessee joined us, as did our newest recruit - Grapeshot.
We also met H.K. Edgerton, a black Southern heritage activist and former president of the NAACP's Asheville, North Carolina, branch. He runs the Southern Heritage 411 website, which is linked below.

Welcome!
Gentlemen of the 5th Kentucky and Gentle Readers,
Welcome to the 5th Kentucky Blogspot. My hope is that this will be a less cumbersome method of communication. By using a blogspot, you will have the opportunity to add your photos, links and comments to the spot. I would like to include a recent picture of the Unit in our heading- but the most recent I have is from 2009 Hartford City. Did we take one this year? If you have one, please send it to the company email, and I will post it. Thank you, and I remain your humble servant,
Big Sam
